Because concert season is here . . . and there are no concerts, it’s time to take a stroll down memory lane to exactly two years ago today when the hometown of Tuscaloosa, Alabama felt the Funk as George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic, Morris Day & the Time, & Sheila E hit the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater for Funkaloosa 2018.
And big brother scored the front row seats.
There was Sheila, complete with her Prince symbol adorned drum set, with a little “Love Bizarre” and plenty of Prince.
And, of course, that “Glamorous Life.”
And then there was Morris Day & the Time. No Jerome but that was just fine. And let me tell you, that dude ain’t missed a beat going on 37 years.
And the muggin’ and the mirror are still in full swing. And don’t miss that comb.
We got “The Walk,” “Jerk Out,” “Cool,” “Fishnet,” “777-9311,” and these two that you might of heard about.
And then came George and Parliament and good lord almighty. There was damn near 50 people on that stage dressed (and not dressed) in all kinds of stuff. And the amphitheater had a strict no smoking policy that George and his crew were absolutely not following. At all.
And goodness did they jam. Each song was about 20 minutes and was just . . . I’m not even sure I got the words. But I do have some pictures . . . and a little “Flashlight.”
For those that know, the whole scene brought you back to the good ol’ days of CityFest when acts like Little Richard, Wilson Pickett, The O’Jays, The Spinners, The Commodores, and, of course, Morris Day & the Time jammed in downtown Tuscaloosa every October.
