On the DN33 Docket this week is a case out of Lebanon, Tennessee, which is just outside of Nashville. A man named Spencer Boston was appearing in court on a marijuana possession charge. He decided the best way to deal with such a charge, and raise awareness for marijuana legalization, was to do this:
Here at the Wilson County General Sessions Court, there’s a lot of things you can’t bring into the court. No food. No drink. No shorts. The one thing it doesn’t say . . . no marijuana.”
My goodness gracious. Now I’m not barred in Tennessee, but as a general rule, I like to think I’d advise against lighting one up in the courtroom. Especially when I’m there for possession of the same dang thing.
Here’s a clip of just the courtroom video:
“We the people deserve better,” he said as he’s being handcuffed. And the County Sheriff confirming, “He’s a lot braver than I am.” Woo boy.
As the story states, Mr. Boston was held in contempt of court and put in jail for 10 days. As opposed to just the fine he’d have had to pay for the possession charge. Which he still has to pay.
Since the initial stories, News Channel 5 in Nashville got an exclusive interview with Mr. Boston. It went as you would expect.
Was that indeed marijuana in that joint?”
“Yes sir it was. It was very good stuff.”
And of course, someone created a GoFundMe for Spencer. It’s titled, “Free Spencer Boston.” As of this writing, it has raised over $7,000. What a country.
